Chris Botti

A few years ago, a very close friend of mine came back from a Chris Botti concert and handed me his CD. “I’m in love, you have to hear this music,” she said. And from the moment it started to play, I couldn’t help but agree. By chance, I was working on Oprah’s 50th birthday celebration and knew Chris would be the ideal entertainer to set the mood. We connected immediately and struck a friendship that’s grown over the years. Chris’s heart is as big as his talent. His latest CD, Chris Botti Italia, is one of my favorites and sharing his music with you is pure pleasure.

Tips from Chris.

  • If I can give a tip to anyone, it is don’t be afraid to do one thing great. A lot of young kids these days want to do many different things, and they have many different distractions. Playing an instrument will give you some grounding point to do one thing great. It takes a lot to play the cello or classical piano or the trumpet, and I think to focus on one thing and be proud of doing one thing, is the number one tip that I would give to someone.
  • Practicing yoga is an amazing routine for growing old gracefully and trying to give yourself energy and youth.
  • Listen to music that isn’t always pop music. Listen to jazz music. Listen to classical music. See if there is something there that is not pop culture and obvious, yet fulfills your desire for music and the arts.
  • Enjoy great food.
  • Try to listen to music by yourself whether you’re driving or alone late at night. Don’t always make your musical experiences on your iPod or computer. Go to a personal place and check out music and try to have a personal connection with it.
  • Sixth tip…Listen to Miles Davis.
